Our Voice, Our Song

Our Voice, Our Song

‘Our Voice Our Song’ project, initiated by the CACHSF, focuses itself on a small compilation of individuals from that generation who came to establish life in Ipswich and surrounding areas of Suffolk.

This series of personal interviews aims to give a voice to some of the members of the Windrush Generation that reside in and around Suffolk. You will hear first-hand accounts of the struggles and triumphs of those who made the journey to the UK, and the impact it had on theirs and their families’ lives. These experiences are not just about the past, they also shed light on the present-day life, partly fuelled by the Windrush Scandal in more recent years, along with the negative stereotypes that still exist today.  This account will show the ongoing discrimination and mistreatment still faced by members of the Windrush Generation and their families.

This project humbly acknowledges the invaluable contributions of all the black men and women who have passed away since the commencement of this project. We pay tribute to those who courageously left behind the warm embrace of the Caribbean, to answer the British government's invitation to help rebuild England. Our deepest gratitude goes out to each and every one of them and their families. Thank you.
